Adrian Belew is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer celebrated for an experimental approach to electric guitar that incorporates unusual textures, effects, and sounds resembling animals, machinery, and other nontraditional sources. After being discovered by Frank Zappa in the 1970s, he worked with David Bowie and Talking Heads before becoming guitarist, vocalist, and co-writer for King Crimson, contributing to landmark albums including Discipline, Beat, Three of a Perfect Pair, THRAK, and The Power to Believe. His extensive solo career began with Lone Rhino and includes Twang Bar King, Mr. Music Head, the Side album series, pop sided, and Elevator, while his session and collaborative credits also include Paul Simon, Nine Inch Nails, Laurie Anderson, Tom Tom Club, and Tori Amos. His instrumental track “Beat Box Guitar” earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
