Caitlín Eilís “Caitie” Barrett is an archaeologist, National Geographic Explorer and professor of classics at Cornell University whose work focuses on everyday life, religion and cross-cultural interaction in the ancient Mediterranean. She co-directs the Casa della Regina Carolina Project at Pompeii, where archaeological research examines how Roman homes, gardens and material culture shaped the experiences of their inhabitants. Barrett is the author of Egyptianizing Figurines from Delos: A Study in Hellenistic Religion and Domesticating Empire: Egyptian Landscapes in Pompeian Gardens, and co-editor of Households in Context: Dwelling in Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt, which received the Archaeological Institute of America’s 2026 James R. Wiseman Book Award. She has conducted archaeological fieldwork in Italy, Egypt, Greece and the United States and has also appeared as an archaeological expert in National Geographic’s Pompeii: Out of Time.
