George Lopez is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, producer, and television host whose comedy is closely associated with Mexican-American family life, race, class, aging, and Latino culture in the United States. Raised in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, he became one of the most prominent Latino comedians in American entertainment through stand-up and the hit ABC sitcom George Lopez, which he co-created, produced, and starred in. His television career also includes the late-night series Lopez Tonight, Saint George, Lopez, and Lopez vs. Lopez, which paired him with his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez. His extensive stand-up catalog includes Why You Crying?, Team Leader, America’s Mexican, Tall, Dark & Chicano, It’s Not Me, It’s You, We’ll Do It for Half, and Muy Católico, which he has described as his final stand-up special. Lopez has also appeared in films including Blue Beetle, The Tax Collector, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Rio, and The Smurfs and has earned multiple Grammy nominations for his comedy recordings.
