John Pizzarelli Trio is a jazz ensemble led by guitarist and vocalist John Pizzarelli, known for sophisticated swing, vocal jazz and inventive interpretations of the Great American Songbook. Pizzarelli formed the trio in the early 1990s, drawing heavily from the guitar-piano-bass tradition associated with Nat King Cole, and the group went on to open for Frank Sinatra and build an international reputation through recordings and live performances. Its catalog includes albums such as Live at Birdland, For Centennial Reasons: 100 Year Salute to Nat King Cole and Dear Mr. Bennett, with repertoire spanning standards, Brazilian music and songs associated with Cole, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. The current trio features Pizzarelli on guitar and vocals with pianist Isaiah J. Thompson and bassist Mike Karn.
