José María Napoleón is a Mexican singer-songwriter from Aguascalientes whose poetic romantic ballads made him one of the defining voices of Latin pop’s 1970s balada movement. Known as “El Poeta de la Canción,” he combines orchestral pop, bolero, ranchera and traditional Mexican influences in enduring songs such as “Vive,” “Hombre,” “Pajarillo,” “Eres,” “Celos” and “Ella se llamaba Martha.” His compositions have also been recorded by major artists including José José, Vicente Fernández, Plácido Domingo and Pepe Aguilar, and his career has been recognized with a Latin Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.
