Judy Collins is a Grammy-winning American singer-songwriter and musician whose crystalline soprano and adventurous interpretations helped define the folk revival while expanding into folk-rock, pop, standards, and musical theater. Born in Seattle and raised in Denver, she began as a classically trained pianist before turning to guitar and becoming a prominent figure in New York’s Greenwich Village folk scene. Her catalog includes acclaimed albums such as In My Life, Wildflowers, Who Knows Where the Time Goes, Whales & Nightingales, Judith, and Spellbound, along with signature recordings of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now,” Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne,” Stephen Sondheim’s “Send in the Clowns,” “Amazing Grace,” “Someday Soon,” and her own “Since You Asked” and “My Father.” Her recording of “Both Sides Now” won the Grammy for Best Folk Performance and was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Collins also played an important early role in introducing audiences to songwriters including Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, and Spellbound marked the first album of her career composed entirely of her own songs.
