Kaonashi is a Philadelphia experimental metalcore band formed in 2012 by vocalist Peter Rono and guitarist/vocalist Alex Hallquist. The group describes its genre as “emo mathcore,” combining metalcore, post-hardcore, screamo, technical riffing, extreme vocals, abrupt time changes, and emotionally driven storytelling. Kaonashi built a cult following through releases including Why Did You Do It?, Dear Lemon House, You Ruined Me: Senior Year, The 3 Faces of Beauty: A Violent Misinterpretation of Morgan Montgomery, A Second Chance at Forever: The Brilliant Lies From Casey Diamond, and the 2025 album I Want To Go Home., which completed the band’s long-running Lemon House High narrative. Songs such as “Coffee & Conversation,” “You’ll Understand When You’re Older,” “I Hate the Sound of Car Keys,” “Humiliation Ritual,” and “When I Say” highlight the band’s mix of chaos, melody, and character-driven writing. In 2026, Kaonashi opened a new chapter with the single “Typing...” while continuing to tour behind its distinctive heavy sound.
