Kid Koala is a Canadian DJ, turntablist, producer, composer and multimedia artist known for transforming scratching and record manipulation into a highly musical form of storytelling. Born Eric San, he developed his career in Montreal’s DJ scene before becoming Ninja Tune’s first North American signing and releasing albums including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Some of My Best Friends Are DJs, 12 Bit Blues, Music to Draw To: Satellite, Music to Draw To: Io and Creatures of the Late Afternoon. His work moves between experimental hip-hop, electronic music, ambient, jazz, blues and rock, while collaborations and projects have connected him with Deltron 3030, Gorillaz, Lovage, Emilíana Torrini and Trixie Whitley. Beyond conventional DJ sets, Kid Koala has created theatrical and multimedia productions including Nufonia Must Fall and The Storyville Mosquito, composed for film and video games, and adapted his graphic novel Space Cadet into an animated feature with an original soundtrack.
