Kirk Whalum is a Grammy-winning American saxophonist, songwriter, and recording artist from Memphis, known for a soulful sound that blends contemporary jazz, smooth jazz, gospel, R&B, blues, and pop. His career includes major solo albums such as The Promise, Caché, For You, Unconditional, Kirk Whalum Performs the Babyface Songbook, Romance Language, Humanité, and Epic Cool, along with the long-running Gospel According to Jazz series. Whalum is also widely recognized for his saxophone solo on Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” his work with artists including Luther Vandross, Quincy Jones, Bob James, Rick Braun, Norman Brown, and Lalah Hathaway, and his Grammy-winning gospel song “It’s What I Do.”
