Luna Negra is the longtime recording and touring ensemble built around guitarist and composer Ottmar Liebert, whose melodic instrumental style blends Spanish and Mexican influences with world music, contemporary instrumental, jazz, and new age elements. Liebert established Luna Negra in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the group became central to recordings including Borrasca, Solo Para Ti, The Hours Between Night + Day, ¡Viva!, Opium, Up Close, and Petals on the Path. The ensemble has featured a rotating cast of musicians rather than a fixed lineup, with longtime bassist Jon Gagan serving as one of its most enduring collaborators. Luna Negra's catalog includes pieces such as "Barcelona Nights," "Snakecharmer," "Havana Club," "La Rosa Negra," and "Reaching Out 2 U," while Solo Para Ti notably featured Carlos Santana on two tracks.
