Ottmar Liebert is a German-born guitarist, composer, and producer whose melodic, Spanish-influenced instrumental music helped define the contemporary “nouveau flamenco” sound. Born in Cologne and later settling in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Liebert founded Luna Negra in 1989 and achieved an international breakthrough with Nouveau Flamenco, a platinum-selling album featuring enduring pieces such as “Barcelona Nights” and “Santa Fe.” His extensive catalog also includes Borrasca, The Hours Between Night + Day, Opium, One Guitar, The Scent of Light, Bare Wood 2, and Rhythm Maps, blending flamenco-inspired guitar with Latin, jazz, classical, electronic, and world-music elements. A five-time Grammy Award nominee, Liebert continues to record independently and tour with Luna Negra, maintaining a distinctive instrumental style built around expressive guitar melodies and global rhythms.
