Phantom Planet is an American alternative-rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1994, known for combining power-pop melodies, indie rock, and garage-rock energy. The group achieved its biggest mainstream breakthrough with “California,” the opening theme for the television series The O.C., and built a broader catalog featuring songs such as “Lonely Day,” “Always on My Mind,” “Big Brat,” “Do the Panic,” and “Raise the Dead.” After ending an extended hiatus in 2019, Phantom Planet returned with the album Devastator and has continued touring and releasing new music, including the 2025 single “FRICTION.”
