P.O.D. is a San Diego band that helped bring nu metal and alternative metal into the mainstream with a mix of heavy riffs, rap-influenced vocals, melody, and anthemic intensity. They are especially known for songs like “Alive,” “Youth of the Nation,” and “Boom,” and for bringing a spiritually grounded message into hard rock without losing mainstream crossover appeal.
Background: Formed in 1992, P.O.D. stands for Payable on Death and has been led by Sonny Sandoval, Traa Daniels, Wuv Bernardo, and Marcos Curiel through most of its run. The band broke through with The Fundamental Elements of Southtown and became a major force with 2001’s Satellite, building a long career that has included international touring, more than 12 million records sold, and three Grammy nominations.
