Santana is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist Carlos Santana. The band's classic lineup, featuring Gregg Rolie, José "Chepito" Areas, Michael Carabello, Michael Shrieve, and David Brown, achieved critical acclaim and commercial success with albums like "Santana" (1969), "Abraxas" (1970), and "Santana III" (1971), which included hits like "Evil Ways" and "Black Magic Woman." After a lineup change and a shift towards jazz fusion in the early 1970s, Santana experienced a resurgence with the 1999 release of "Supernatural," which featured collaborations with artists like Rob Thomas and The Product G&B and topped charts worldwide. The album won eight Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards, solidifying Santana's status as one of the best-selling groups of all time with over 47 million certified records sold in the US and an estimated 100 million worldwide. In 1998, the original lineup was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
