Snarky Puppy is a five-time Grammy Award-winning instrumental collective led by bassist, composer, and producer Michael League, known for an expansive sound that blends jazz, funk, R&B, rock, gospel, soul, and global influences. Formed out of the University of North Texas music community, the rotating ensemble can include more than 20 musicians and has become known for intricate arrangements, deep grooves, improvisation, and highly collaborative live-in-studio recordings. Breakthrough releases such as Family Dinner, Vol. 1 and We Like It Here produced signature tracks including “Something” featuring Lalah Hathaway, “Lingus,” “Shofukan,” and “What About Me?,” while albums including Sylva, Culcha Vulcha, Live at the Royal Albert Hall, and Empire Central earned Grammy recognition. The group continued its orchestral collaborations with Metropole Orkest on the 2025 album Somni, conducted by Jules Buckley.
