Steel Pulse is a Grammy-winning British roots reggae band from the Handsworth area of Birmingham, England, known for combining socially conscious songwriting with deep reggae grooves, dub influences, and messages addressing racism, injustice, human rights, and African identity. Led by founding singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter David Hinds, the group established itself with the landmark debut Handsworth Revolution and expanded its international following through albums including True Democracy, Earth Crisis, Babylon the Bandit, African Holocaust, and Mass Manipulation. Their catalog includes reggae classics such as “Handsworth Revolution,” “Ku Klux Klan,” “Chant a Psalm,” “Your House,” “Roller Skates,” “Steppin’ Out,” “Ravers,” and “Bodyguard.” Babylon the Bandit earned Steel Pulse a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, making them the first non-Jamaican act to win the reggae category, while later releases including African Holocaust and Mass Manipulation also received Grammy nominations.
