Steven Vai, a three-time Grammy Award winner and fifteen-time nominee, is an American guitarist, songwriter, and producer known for his virtuosic and highly individualistic style. Starting his career in 1978 as a transcriptionist for Frank Zappa and playing in Zappa's band from 1980 to 1983, Vai launched his solo career in 1983 with the release of his debut album, Flex-Able. His most successful release, Passion and Warfare (1990), is hailed as a landmark in hard rock guitar virtuosity. Vai has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Ozzy Osbourne, David Lee Roth, and Alice Cooper, and has toured with acts such as G3, Zappa Plays Zappa, and the Experience Hendrix Tour. With over 15 million records sold, Vai's influence on the guitar landscape of the 1980s and beyond is undeniable.
