Terry Bozzio is an American drummer, composer, and percussionist known for extraordinary technical precision, melodic approaches to the drum set, and an expansive career spanning progressive rock, jazz fusion, new wave, and experimental music. He gained major recognition as Frank Zappa’s drummer in the 1970s, performing on recordings including Bongo Fury, Zoot Allures, Sheik Yerbouti, Joe’s Garage, and Baby Snakes and inspiring Zappa’s famously demanding composition “The Black Page.” Bozzio later played with progressive rock band U.K., co-founded the new wave group Missing Persons, and collaborated with Jeff Beck and Tony Hymas on the acclaimed album Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop. His extensive solo and collaborative work includes Black Light Syndrome and Situation Dangerous with Bozzio Levin Stevens, Chamber Works, Drawing the Circle, Solo Drum Music, and the multi-volume Composer Series, establishing him as one of the most distinctive drum-set composers and solo percussion performers in modern music.
