The English Beat is a Birmingham-born band whose buoyant blend of two-tone ska, reggae, soul, pop and punk helped define British alternative music at the turn of the 1980s. Led on the current North American touring circuit by founding singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Wakeling, the group performs favorites from The Beat and General Public catalogs, including “Mirror in the Bathroom,” “Save It for Later,” “I Confess” and “Tenderness.” The original band released the influential albums I Just Can’t Stop It, Wha’ppen? and Special Beat Service before Wakeling and Ranking Roger formed General Public. Wakeling revived the recording name with 2018’s Here We Go Love and continues to deliver the catalog’s socially aware lyrics with an energetic, dance-ready live sound.
