Tony Levin is an American bassist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose work has been central to progressive rock, art rock, jazz fusion, and experimental music for more than five decades. Known for electric and upright bass as well as helping popularize the Chapman Stick, he has been a longtime member of Peter Gabriel’s band and played extensively with King Crimson on albums including Discipline, Beat, Three of a Perfect Pair, THRAK, and The Power to Believe. His enormous session and collaborative résumé includes recordings with John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, James Taylor, and numerous others, while his own projects include Stick Men, Liquid Tension Experiment, Levin Brothers, and Bozzio Levin Stevens. Levin’s solo catalog includes World Diary, Waters of Eden, Pieces of the Sun, Resonator, Stick Man, and the 2024 album Bringing It Down to the Bass, and he currently performs 1980s King Crimson material with Adrian Belew and Steve Vai in BEAT.
