Tracy Lawrence is a rock-tinged honky tonk singer who rose to fame in the early '90s with a blend of modern and traditional country sounds. Debuting in 1991 with "Sticks and Stones," he became a linchpin in the neo-traditional country scene, earning double-platinum certifications for "Alibis" (1993) and "Time Marches On" (1996). His career has seen 40 singles on the Billboard Country charts, including the number ones "Can't Break It to My Heart," "My Second Home," and "Find Out Who Your Friends Are." Born in 1968 in Atlanta, Texas, Lawrence grew up in Foreman, Arkansas, where he was exposed to traditional and outlaw country as well as Southern rock. He began performing at 15 and moved to Nashville in 1990, signing with Atlantic Records after a series of talent show wins. Despite a violent mugging in 1991 that nearly derailed his career, Lawrence rebounded with a string of hits, including four number one singles from "Alibis." His success continued through the mid-1990s, but personal issues and legal troubles led to a decline in commercial success. Lawrence has since released albums on his own label and ventured into Christian music, while maintaining a loyal fan base with re-recorded singles and collaborations.
