True Blue is the solo project of American multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, and performer Maya Laner, whose shape-shifting electronic pop blends synth-pop, dance music, ambient textures, alternative pop, and experimental production. Laner first became known as a bassist with Porches and later worked as a touring musician with Caroline Polachek while developing True Blue as a distinct creative identity. Early releases including Edge Of and LU/CY established her intimate, synth-driven approach, followed by songs such as “I Wanna Believe,” “Airplane Mode,” “Truest of Blues,” “Knives Out,” “Fountain,” and her interpretation of Cocteau Twins’ “Cherry-Coloured Funk.” Her 2025 debut full-length Star Witness expanded the project into an immersive world of club music, surreal pop, and cinematic atmosphere, a style Laner has described as “evoca-pop.”
